IRS Exceeds Taxpayer Assistance Response Goals

Secretary Yellen seeks to maintain Congressional investment.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said this week that the agency exceeded its taxpayer response goals for the year. They attribute additional funding for the three-minute hold time now averaged by call center workers. In 2023, when the IRS received 10 years of Congressional funding to modernize the agency, the average hold time was four minutes. In 2022, the average caller hold time was 28 minutes.

“These accomplishments show that the IRS’ strong performance last filing season was not a fluke,” said Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. “It’s showing that when (the IRS) has the resources it needs, it will provide taxpayers the service they deserve,” Secretary Yellen said, adding that she would work with Congress “to ensure that the IRS has the resources to sustain this momentum.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Yellen to seek God’s guidance as she oversees the Treasury Department.
  • For Commissioner Danny Werfel to be discerning as he heads the Internal Revenue Service.
